Art by regional artists goes viral in Knoxville

A number of unique art exhibitions are on the horizon in Knoxville. Art is spreading itself throughout the city more than ever before.

Art displays are no longer found only in traditional art museums, they are being displayed in unique venues, including numerous shops and even in an historic church.

Oak Ridge ceramic artist Bill Capshaw will be the first presenter at "Time Well Spent: Inspiration at Lunch"

An unusual exhibition on September's agenda is "Artwork Gone Wild". Animal artists from the Knoxville Zoo will be presenting watercolor-based artwork from September 7-28 in the Balcony at the Emporium Center.

As part of First Friday activities on September 7, the Gallery at Main Street will feature 15 regional artists with a "Wildlife" exhibition.

Focusing on wildlife art, the gallery will also include landscape art along with other pictoral scenes.

A collection of video interviews and photographs entitled "Looking at the Dark" by Knoxville artist Alex Merchant will be exhibited on the north side of the Balcony at the Emporium Center. The exhibition will open on Friday, September 7 at 5:00 p.m.

A new monthly series featuring artists' works will also discuss their inspirations and processes. Entitled "Time Well Spent: Inspiration at Lunch" this series is free and open to the public. Guests are invited to bring a "Brown Bag" lunch and enjoy interactive presentations beginning at 12:00 noon at the Emporium Center, 100 S. Gay Street, in downtown Knoxville.

The first presenter in the series is Oak Ridge ceramic artist Bill Capshaw who will bring a portable kiln to demonstrate some of his techniques on Wednesday, September 19 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m.
