In Pictures: Seven Falls in Colorado

July 1,2022
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – You’ll never be intimidated by a StairMaster exercise machine after bopping up the 224 stairs at Seven Falls, one of the many attractions at the famed Broadmoor resort. Seven Falls (and the steep staircases beside them) are at the end of a box canyon wedged between the towering Pillars of Hercules rock formation. The Pillars of Hercules jut 900 feet above the canyon floor and squeeze to within 41 feet of each other. The waterfalls bounce and splash for 181 vertical feet in seven distinct steps of various heights and water patterns.
Cool, clear water
Crystal clear Rocky Mountain water puts on a show at Seven Falls. This is the last of the seven drops down the granite face of a Colorado mountain. Seven Falls is only a mile from The Broadmoor and just minutes from downtown Colorado Springs. Image by Tom Adkinson

The first flight
Almost everyone’s heart is pounding coming up this staircase, the first segment of 224 stairs taking you to the top of Seven Falls. Great views and two hiking trails are the reward for going all the way. Image by Tom Adkinson

Encouragement
This sign’s encouragement is genuine. If you make it this far, there’s no sense is stalling out. Remember that you are exercising here at almost 7,000 feet elevation. Image by Tom Adkinson

View from Above
Plenty of visitors enjoy Seven Falls from the canyon floor or from an observation deck served by an elevator, but only the stair climbers earn views such as this one. Image by Tom Adkinson

A floral bonus
Any Colorado hike, even a vertical one such as at Seven Falls, has visual treats large and small. This solitary blossom was right beside the Seven Falls staircase. Image by Tom Adkinson
