HEBER SPRINGS, Arkansas – Morning fog sits silently on the Little Red River just downstream from Lindsey’s Resort as two fishermen begin their quest for rainbow and brown trout that populate this tailwater stream. Later in the day, a resort guest tries her hand with a fly rod, working the edge of the river. Trout habitat stretches for 32 miles above and below the resort.

The Little Red River, located in north central Arkansas, flows cold all year because its water comes from the depths of Greers Ferry Lake after passing through generators in Greers Ferry Dam. Even fishermen with little experience can have productive days on the Little Red River with a good fishing guide, whether they use spinning tackle or fly rods. The Little Red River has a very special claim to fame: A world-record brown trout was caught here in 1992. It weighed 40 pounds 4 ounces, and a casting of it draws plenty of comments at Lindsey’s Resort.
