JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – Two young beachgoers enjoy a blue sky, an end-of-summer conversation and the sounds of the Atlantic Ocean crashing on the beach at Jekyll Island, one of Georgia’s barrier islands.

While Jekyll Island is protected as a Georgia state park, it also has private residences, historic homes, campgrounds, restaurants and lodging properties such as the Westin Jekyll Island. It once was a retreat for moguls such as J.P. Morgan, Joseph Pulitzer and Marshall Field, but it’s accessible to everyone now.
