MARYVILLE -- Maryville College senior midfielder Ridge Carter, a native of Maryville and graduate of Maryville High School, was named as a 1st Team Academic All-District selection by the College Sports Information Directors of America following his 2011 campaign.

Carter, a Biochemistry major, has excelled in the classroom with a 4.0 cumulative grade point average. On the field, MC's speedy attacker paced the Scots to a 14-4-2 overall record. He helped the Scots earn a regular season Great South Athletic Conference title and their 7th GSAC Tournament crown. In 15 games played, Carter deposited two goals, one a game winner, and a pair of assists on the season.

During his career in the orange and garnet, Carter garnered numerous accolades. He was recognized on three occasions as a Great South Athletic All-Academic Team member. He was a two-time GSAC All-Conference selection in 2010 and 2011. The NSCAA honored him as an All-South Scholar and ESPN/CoSida named him an Academic All-American in 2010.

As a 2011 Capital One Academic All-District selection, Ridge will be considered for Academic All-American honors by CoSida voting members. All-American selections will be announced at the end of November.
