  Volleyball Posts Three Match Win Streak at Hanover Classic

MARYVILLE, TN -- The Maryville College volleyball team dropped their first challenge at the 2011 Hanover Invitational in Indiana this weekend but rallied for three consecutive victories to go 3-1 in the prestigious northern tournament.

Maryville fell to Anderson 3-1 by the scores of 25-19, 23-25, 20-25, and 20-25. Maryville native and senior Kristin Findley posted another double-double with a team-high 23 digs and 19 digs. Teri Lind and Lauren Bonee combined for 44 assists while Kara Strickland paced the defense with 23 digs. Amanda Gunlikson added eight kills and four blocks.

MC began their win streak with a four set match decision over Capital (OH) by the scores of 23-25, 25-22, 25-23, and 27-25. Findley attacked at a 38% pace and finished with 25 kills. She added to her double-double accomplishments with 20 digs as well as three service aces. Lind tallied 30 assists while Bonee added 18 assists to pace the offense. Katherine Nadler also posted a double-double with 12 kills and 24 digs. Strickland continued to lead the defense with 27 digs.

The Scots swept Spalding (KY) by the scores of 25-22, 25-12, and 25-17. Findley led MC at the net with 10 kills while pacing the defensive effort with a team-high 17 digs. Kristen Sharp added eight kills while Maryville combined for eight team aces and a dozen team blocks.

The Scots battled for a hard fought five set win over Centre College to conclude the tournament. MC won 3-2 by the scores of 21-25, 16-25, 25-17, 26-24, and 15-13. Down in the first two sets, Maryville took the last three sets with Kara Strickland's team leading 22 kills. She completed her second double-double of the weekend with 17 digs. Findley finished with 19 kills and 26 digs. Nadler added a third MC double-double with 12 kills and 17 digs. Lauren Bonee also contributed five service aces.

Findley finished the weekend with 77 kills and 82 digs to lead MC to victory. Strickland added 41 kills and 77 digs while Nadler tallied 38 kills and 60 digs.

Maryville (3-4) will return to Tennessee for their home opener on Wednesday when they host Covenant College at 6:00 pm in the Cooper Athletic Center. Fans can catch MC in action via the internet with live video from Knoxivi at: www.knoxivi.com
