Tennessee grabs four wins at ORCI

OAK RIDGE, TN - Tennessee kicked off its spring season over the weekend, snagging four first-place finishes at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational.

UT had five boats racing in three sessions spread over Saturday and Sunday.

In the morning session on Saturday, the Lady Vols matched up against Yale and Clemson in the 1V8, 1V4, 2V8, 2V4 and 3V8/N8 races. UT's 2V8, 2V4 and 3V8/N8 all took second place behind Yale while the 1V8 finished third with a time of 5:54.805. Tennessee's 1V4 suffered damage to the steering mechanism at the starting line and was designated as DNS.

In the second session on Saturday, the Lady Vols claimed victory in three races, winning the 2V8, 2V4 and 3V8/N8 events. UT's 2V8 bested Minnesota and Tulsa, making it down the course in 5:44.497, more than two seconds ahead of second-place Minnesota. The 2V4 also faced off against Minnesota and Tulsa, posting a time of 6:25.060 and holding off Tulsa who was right on their heels with a time of 6:25.956. UT's 3V8/N8 squared off against Indiana and Minnesota, taking a commanding 7-second lead over second-place Indiana with a time of 6:03.451. The 1V8 and 1V4 crews finished second and third, respectively, posting times of 5:43.111 and 6:31.388.

Sunday was highlighted by UT's 2V8 holding off Notre Dame and Miami while recording Tennessee's fastest time of the day at 5:53.613. The Lady Vols' 1V8, 1V4 and 2V4 each finished second behind Notre Dame and ahead of Miami. The 3V8/N8 faced Notre Dame and Minnesota, finishing second with a time of 6:13.737.
