KNOXVILLE - During his Weekly Update, Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs talks about Read Across America Day, the Hero’s Hill Challenge, and more.
Mayor Jacobs reflected on his participation in Read Across America Day earlier this week, celebrating the birthday of Dr. Seuss by reading with students across the region.
“I had a wonderful time reading with students at Maynardville Elementary School in Union County, and then right here in Knox County at Corryton, Gibbs, Copper Ridge, and Powell Elementary, as well as Grace Christian Academy,” says Mayor Jacobs.
Speaking of reading, he reminds all readers that this year’s Read City USA challenge is in full swing. More information on “Stomp, Roar, Dinosaur!” can be found online at knoxcountylibrary.org/read-city or at any Knox County Library.
Mayor Jacobs also encourages residents to take part in the Hero’s Hill Challenge later this month. All proceeds from the event go towards Operation Hero’s Hill, which will create a community of 20 tiny homes and a community center for veterans who are having difficulty finding housing.
“We’re raising money for the Hero’s Hill community center and costs like furniture and so forth,” says Mayor Jacobs. “The Hero’s Hill Challenge is a fun way you can help.”
The Hero’s Hill Challenge will take place Saturday, March 21 at 8 a.m. at Johnson University in South Knox County. The event includes a 5K run, a one-mile fun run, and a team challenge designed to raise awareness about the number of homeless veterans in Knox County. Those interested can register online at runsignup.com/HEROSHILLCHALLENGE.
