KNOXVILLE - During his weekly update, Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs talked about Operation Hero’s Hill, National Ag Day, and National Vietnam War Veterans Day.
Mayor Jacobs celebrates the success of the Hero’s Hill Challenge, which would not have been possible without Jane Jolley, the Knoxville Track Club, Johnson University, and many generous sponsors and attendees.
“This past Saturday’s Hero’s Hill Challenge was a tremendous success,” says Mayor Jacobs. “We had 227 registrants and raised more than $33,000!”
The mayor also provides an update on Operation Hero’s Hill, a project that will create a community of 20 tiny homes and a community center for veterans experiencing homelessness.
“We hope to have the first tiny home finished next month,” says Mayor Jacobs. “Meanwhile, the site is now being cleared, graded, and prepped for the arrival of the tiny homes.”
In addition, Mayor Jacobs highlights the importance of agriculture in East Tennessee following this week’s National Ag Day celebration hosted by the UT Ag Extension Office. The event recognized the vital role agriculture plays in daily life and the local economy.
Mayor Jacobs also invites residents to attend a local observance recognizing those who served during the Vietnam War. A ceremony will be held Saturday at the Vietnam Veterans Monument at World’s Fair Park. The event will include a keynote address from U.S. Air Force Captain Bill Robinson and serves as an opportunity for the community to honor the service and sacrifice of Vietnam veterans. |
