KNOXVILLE - During his Weekly Update, Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs talked about Marilyn Childress, the Knox County Regional Forensic Center, upcoming events, and more.
Mayor Jacobs recognizes Marilyn Childress for her longstanding service to veterans and their families. A Navy veteran who served as a corpsman during the Vietnam War, Childress has dedicated decades to supporting veterans’ causes and preserving their legacy.
“Over the years, Marilyn has identified 230 veterans’ grave markers in Great Smoky Mountains National Park,” says Mayor Jacobs. “Thanks to her efforts, those graves are covered with a wreath on Wreaths Across America Day every year. We all very proud of you, Marilyn!”
The Mayor also highlights the work of Knox County Medical Examiner Dr. Darinka Mileusnic and recent national attention received by her office.
“Great work by our Medical Examiner Dr. Darinka Mileusnic, who chased down a new street drug which is ten times more deadly than fentanyl,” says Mayor Jacobs.
Mayor Jacobs encourages families to attend the Reel Fun Kids’ Fishing Fest on Saturday, June 6, at The Cove at Concord. Hosted by Knox County Parks and Recreation in partnership with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, the event will feature fishing instruction, environmental education, and plenty of chances to cast a line.
The event kicks off Tennessee’s Bobby Wilson Free Fishing Week. Anglers of all ages can enjoy license-free fishing on June 6, and youth ages 15 and under can fish license-free through June 12.
Mayor Jacobs also invites motorcycle enthusiasts to participate in the Operation Hero’s Hill Ride on June 20. The ride will begin at Rusty Wallace Nissan on Clinton Highway. Registration starts at 9 a.m., and kickstands are up at 11 a.m. The cost is $20 per motorcycle, and that includes a ride T-shirt. Proceeds from the ride go to benefit Operation Hero’s Hill, a project that will create a community of 20 tiny homes and a community center for veterans experiencing homelessness. |
