KNOXVILLE - At a time when The Love Kitchen is celebrating 35 years of dedicated service to the community, an unfortunate incident occurred early this morning. Around 9:30 a.m., Knox County Communications District received a call reporting white smoke inside The Love Kitchen building. The Knoxville Fire Department promptly responded to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters observed minimal white smoke but forced entry into the facility and found thicker, darker smoke emanating from the back of the building.

The fire crews quickly located the source of the fire in a storage room at the back right side of the building. Fortunately, there was no one inside at the time, and no injuries have been reported. The fire caused damage primarily localized to the storage closet, including fire, smoke, and water damage. The remainder of the building sustained only minor smoke and water damage. Thanks to the swift and efficient response of the fire crews, further destruction was prevented, minimizing loss to this vital community resource.

The Love Kitchen has long been a cornerstone of support in Knox County, providing meals, clothing, and emergency food packages to homebound, homeless, and unemployed individuals from all walks of life, regardless of race or faith. By collaborating with local agencies, The Love Kitchen not only distributes nutritious meals—serving approximately 3,200 each week—but also secures used clothing and donates critical services aimed at fostering self-sufficiency among those it serves.
