SEVIERVILLE, TN - With a significant winter storm forecasted to impact the region this weekend, The Salvation Army of Sevierville is preparing to help protect vulnerable neighbors from dangerous conditions, including potential heavy snow, ice, and life-threatening temperatures.
As part of its severe-weather response, The Salvation Army of Sevierville has opened the chapel located at 806 W. Main St. in Sevierville as an overnight warming center. These measures are designed to ensure that everyone has a warm, safe place to go as temperatures drop and that no one is left outside during hazardous conditions.
“As this winter storm approaches, our priority is helping as many people as possible to have a warm, safe place to be,” said Captain Justin Vincent, Corps Officer for The Salvation Army of Sevierville. “Cold like this can be deadly, and we never want someone to suffer simply because they have nowhere to go. Our mission calls us to meet human needs without discrimination, and during severe weather, that means opening our doors wider, staying open longer, and doing everything we can to keep people safe."
Need For Hotel Funding During Extreme Cold
With dangerously low temperatures expected next week, The Salvation Army anticipates shelter demand may exceed the capacity of its chapel warming center. To ensure that no one is turned away, the organization is preparing to place overflow guests in local hotels as needed.
A $50 donation provides one night in a local hotel for an individual experiencing homelessness, offering immediate warmth, safety, and dignity during the coldest nights of the season. Community support is urgently needed to help meet this increased demand for emergency lodging.
The Salvation Army’s weather response is funded entirely through the generosity of local supporters. Warming-center operations and other expanded services are only possible because of gifts made by individuals, organizations, and businesses across the community.
