KNOX COUNTY, TN - During his Weekly Update, Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs talks about the progress of Operation Hero’s Hill, celebrates Dolly Parton’s 80th birthday, and reflects on the passing of former Knox County Executive Tommy Schumpert.
Mayor Jacobs recently visited several Knox County high schools to check on the progress of tiny homes students are building for Operation Hero’s Hill, a community of 20 tiny homes for veterans who are having a tough time finding housing.
Currently, 17 homes are under construction, with several already passing framing and electrical inspections. Construction on the final three homes will begin soon, and the project remains on track to be completed by the end of the school year.
“We will make our deadline of finishing all 20 homes by the end of the school year,” says Mayor Jacobs. “Great work by our students, teachers, and mentors.”
The Mayor also wishes a happy birthday to Dolly Parton, noting how much she means to the community. To celebrate, Knox County Public Library is hosting “Happy Birthday Dolly” Storytimes across the system.
“Of course, you know how much she means to the world, but here at home, we are especially grateful for her optimism, positivity, and generosity,” exclaims Mayor Jacobs.
On a somber note, Mayor Jacobs acknowledges the passing of former Knox County Executive Tommy Schumpert at the age of 87. “Tommy was a great man and an outstanding public servant,” he says. “He will be missed."
Please note that all Knox County Government offices, including the Knox County Health Department, convenience centers, and public libraries, will be closed Monday, Jan. 19, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. All offices will open at regular business hours on Tuesday, Jan. 20. |
