KNOXVILLE, TN - During his Weekly Update today, Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs talked about the Staff Sergeant Ryan Knauss Pedestrian Bridge, Dolly Parton Children’s Hospital, and more.

Mayor Jacobs provided an update on the Staff Sergeant Ryan Knauss Pedestrian Bridge project in Gibbs. Funded through a Transportation Alternatives Program grant from the Tennessee Department of Transportation, its design will improve safety by allowing students and pedestrians to cross a heavily traveled roadway without interacting with vehicle traffic.

“We expect to receive a Notice to Proceed from TDOT this upcoming week,” says Mayor Jacobs. “The plans are ready so, if all goes as expected, we’ll be bidding the project early Spring and begin construction in June.”

In addition, Mayor Jacobs shared his excitement about the newly renamed Dolly Parton Children’s Hospital.

“A huge thank you to Dolly! Without her and her generosity, our region would look a lot different,” says Jacobs. “In comic books, superheroes wear capes. Here in East Tennessee, our superhero wears sequins.”
