Following the quick response, crews remained on scene for about one hour to conduct overhaul operations and ensure thorough cleanup. Preliminary assessments indicated that the home sustained minor damage primarily due to smoke, water, and fire exposure at the rear, rendering it uninhabitable at this time.
All five residents, along with their five dogs, were safely evacuated prior to the firefighters’ arrival, with no injuries reported. However, it was observed that the residence lacked functioning smoke alarms, which are critical for early fire detection and improving safety outcomes.
Given the challenging weather conditions, including snow, cold temperatures, and icy surfaces, the firefighters faced additional obstacles while managing the incident. The KFD Chaplain is currently collaborating with the Red Cross to provide assistance to the displaced occupants.
This incident underscores the importance of having operational smoke alarms and taking preventative measures to enhance fire safety within residential properties.
