KNOXVILLE - Betsy Henderson was sworn in as Knox County mayor today during a historic installation ceremony at the Tennessee Theatre in downtown Knoxville. Several other elected officials also took their oaths of office during the ceremony.

Henderson’s inauguration marks the first time in Knox County history that a woman has served as mayor.

“I’m truly honored to serve as the next Mayor of Knox County and to build upon the successes we have experienced over the past several years,” Henderson said. “We will continue to ensure that this is the best place to do business, raise a family, and live.”

During her address, Henderson outlined her priorities for the next four years. She said she intends to work closely with the Knox County Commission and school board to promote economic growth, strengthen education and infrastructure, and support local families.

“Together, we will make Knox County a leader and a model for communities across Tennessee,” Henderson said. “We won’t do it quietly or passively, but with intentional action pointed at solving problems for the hardworking people who live and do business here each day.”

Henderson said her administration will focus on keeping taxes low, supporting smart conservative growth, ensuring world-class schools and roads, and advocating for hardworking families.
