NASHVILLE, TN - Following a fatal plane crash in East Tennessee that killed two people, an aviation attorney said that the plane was experiencing problems in its short flight and may have tried to make an emergency landing before it crashed.

A Beechcraft 58 Baron departed from Knoxville Downtown Island Airport en route to River’s Edge Airport in Blaine, Tennessee on April 13 before crashing near a roadway in New Market around 1:10 p.m., according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. Authorities say the aircraft burst into flames on impact, killing both individuals on board.

Aviation attorney Keith Williams, of Keith Williams Law Group, says the aircraft was probably trying to make an emergency landing at Dumplin Field.

“They had problems from the start,” Williams said. “In the short flight, airspeed fluctuated between 140 and 190 knots (161 to 219 miles per hour). At one point, the altitude dropped 2,000 feet before they gained it back. They tried to make an emergency landing on a very small airstrip before crashing into a vacant field.”

In addition to his practice, Williams is the Past Chair of the American Association for Justice’s Aviation Litigation Section, and he is a member of the Aviation and Space Law Committee of the American Bar Association’s Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section. Mr. Williams is also a member and past president of the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association.
