KNOXVILLE - Apex Bank, Tennessee’s #1 community bank as ranked by the ICBA, has acquired the landmark 24-story Riverview Tower located at 900 S. Gay Street in downtown Knoxville. This significant acquisition also includes the adjacent 421-space parking garage, marking the return of the city’s second-tallest building to local ownership for the first time in decades.
“We are proud to make this investment because we believe deeply in Knoxville’s future,” stated Dave Miller, CEO of Apex Bank. “With 95 years of history and our headquarters in this city, we are honored to own this landmark, reaffirming our commitment to the people and places we serve.”
Riverview Tower offers over 334,000 square feet of modern, Class A office space with spectacular panoramic views of the Tennessee River and the Great Smoky Mountains. The acquisition underscores Apex Bank’s strong confidence in Knoxville’s growing economy and ongoing downtown revitalization.
“This acquisition is about more than real estate; it is a strategic investment in the city we call home,” said Matt Daniels, Chairman of Apex Bank. “Bringing Riverview Tower under local ownership ensures that a cornerstone of Knoxville’s skyline remains tied to the growth and stability of a local institution.”
Apex Bank plans to occupy a portion of the building while retaining the existing tenant base, maintaining Riverview Tower’s vital role as a regional hub for financial, legal, and technology sectors.
Founded in 1931, Apex Bank is recognized as a top-performing community bank. Since its acquisition by Matt Daniels in 2008, the bank has expanded its assets from $157 million to $1.4 billion. It now operates 22 retail locations and a Knoxville-based mortgage servicing center employing over 220 team members. Apex Bank is a member of the FDIC and an Equal Housing Lender.
