JEFFERSON CITY, TN – On Monday, October 20, 2025, law enforcement officials executed an arrest warrant for Marcus Vann Atkins, a 30-year-old paramedic employed with Jefferson County Emergency Medical Services (JCEMS). Investigators from the Criminal Investigation Division, together with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the Jefferson City Police Department, apprehended Atkins at a residence on McCowen Avenue in Jefferson City. He faces three counts of Aggravated Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, following a four-week investigation triggered by a cyber tip.

Atkins also serves as a volunteer softball coach for the South Jefferson Little League. However, authorities have clarified that so far, there is no evidence linking any of the alleged victims to his professional role or coaching activities. This distinction is crucial as the investigation unfolds, seeking to ensure the safety of the community and any potential victims involved.

In light of the ongoing investigation and allegations concerning the possible possession of child pornography, JCEMS was promptly notified by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department. In response, they placed Atkins on unpaid suspension, maintaining that such actions are standard protocol until the investigation's conclusion and any ensuing legal proceedings are completed.

Director Brad Phillips of JCEMS has taken proactive measures, initiating an internal review to confirm that no illegal activities were conducted using JCEMS resources, equipment, or software. The organization has expressed its full cooperation with law enforcement, reinforcing its commitment to transparency throughout this process.

Brad Phillips emphasized the integrity of the Jefferson County EMS staff, stating, "The men and women of Jefferson County EMS are dedicated public servants whose professionalism, integrity, and compassion guide everything we do. The alleged actions under investigation do not reflect the values or mission of our organization. We will continue to serve our community with the highest standards of care and accountability, and appreciate the diligent efforts of our law enforcement partners in protecting our county."

As the investigation progresses, law enforcement continues to encourage anyone with additional information related to this case to come forward, prioritizing the protection and welfare of potential victims.
