CADES COVE - Even during the federal government shutdown, visitors to Great Smoky Mountains National Park can continue to experience the nature and history of one of the park’s most beloved destinations -- Cades Cove. Nestled next to the park’s scenic 11-mile loop road, Cades Cove Trading Company campground store is open and ready to serve everyone exploring this corner of the Smokies.
A favorite stop for hikers, cyclists, campers, and wildlife watchers, the Trading Company, operated by national hospitality company ExplorUS, is more than just a convenience; it’s part of the Cades Cove experience. Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, guests can grab a hot pretzel, made-to-order pizza, and its famous soft serve ice cream; pick up Smokies-inspired apparel and souvenirs; and stock up on firewood, ice, and other camping essentials.
For those who want to take in the valley on two wheels, bicycle rentals are available daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., offering a unique way to enjoy the loop road and its sweeping views of the mountains and wildlife. All rentals are first-come, first-served.
“Cades Cove is a place where history, wildlife, and the natural beauty of the Smokies come together,” said Cades Cove Trading Company General Manager Daniel Gregory. “We’re proud to continue serving visitors during this time and to help them make the most of their park experience.”
The park does not charge an entrance fee and is open from sunrise to sunset, allowing access for hiking, biking, and scenic drives. Cades Cove Trading Company will close for the winter season on Monday, Dec. 155.
