Thousands of local residents attend the 83rd CSX Santa Train in St. Paul, Va.

The CSX Santa Train completed its 83rd annual run on Saturday, Nov. 22, once again delivering gifts and festive cheer to communities along a 110-mile route through Kentucky, Southwest Virginia and Tennessee.

One of the nation’s longest-running holiday traditions, the CSX Santa Train distributed more than 15,000 toys, 6,000 train safety books, and 5,700 backpacks filled with gifts, gloves and hats to families along the route.

“The CSX Santa Train embodies the best of what the holiday season represents – community, generosity and connection,” said Bryan Tucker, vice president of stakeholder engagement and sustainability at CSX. “Every year, we cherish being part of something that continues to bring joy and hope to families in this region, especially after the challenges that many of them have faced this year.”

This year’s journey carried added meaning, marking one year since Hurricane Helene brought devastating flooding to Appalachia. Several communities along the route also experienced severe flooding in July of this year.

This year’s CSX Santa Train was made possible through CSX’s partnerships with Appalachian Power, Food City and the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce. Nonprofit Good360 served as this year’s official winter clothing partner, providing thousands of gloves and hats in collaboration with CSX.
