City Grant Programs Now Open

KNOXVILLE - Local organizations working to create healthy, safe and thriving communities are invited to apply for grant funding being offered through the City’s Office of Community Safety and Empowerment.

Applications are now open for funding opportunities in categories identified as target areas for community safety and violence reduction.

“These grants are designed to support community-based efforts that strengthen neighborhoods, reduce violence and provide youth with jobs and connection,” says Community Safety and Empowerment Director LaKenya Middlebrook.

Staff members are available to preview applications prior to submission if they are sent by Nov. 17, 2025. Applications for four of the grants are due Dec. 3, 2025, at 4:30 p.m.

African American Equity Restoration Task Force
Supports efforts to undo damage from Urban Renewal projects and create opportunities in East Knoxville within the focus areas of Education, Community Investment & Engagement, Homeownership, Small Business Development & Entrepreneurship, and Workforce Equity Program period: March - November 2026

Opportunity Youth Engagement
Supports high-quality youth programming and/or employment specifically engaging young people identified as being at the highest risk of involvement in violent crime, including justice-involved youth Program period: May 4 - Oct. 9, 2026

Youth Violence Prevention Week
Supports programs, events, activities, trainings, campaigns, resource development and distribution related to participation in and furtherance of the goals of Youth Violence Prevention Week and reduction of violence involving youth. Funded activities may engage youth, adults or the community at-large during National Youth Violence Prevention Week, April 20-24, 2026.

Empower Knox Youth Mental Health Cohort
Supports programs and activities that engage youth ages 12-24 in activities that aim for positive outcomes and incorporate mental health support, including coping skills and strategies that help youth build resilience. Program period: Feb. 1 - Sept. 15, 2026

Grants in one category will be accepted on a rolling basis thru May 1, 2026:

Empower Knox Event Grant
Supports the production of community events that facilitate the development of strong, positive social connections for young people ages 12-24 with their peers and trusted adults.
Program period: Jan. 1 - Sept. 15, 2026
