KNOXVILLE - At 6:23 pm this evening, the KFD emergency response team was dispatched to the location of a fire at Greenbrier Ridge Apartments, 1505 Greenbrier Ridge Way, for an apartment fire that posed a significant threat. The caller stated that an apartment was ablaze and that the flames were rapidly spreading to other units. Some occupants who were trapped on the third floor had jumped from their balcony in an attempt to escape the dangerous situation.
When KFD arrived on the scene, they observed heavy smoke and fire pouring from the building. Due to the windy conditions, which exacerbated the situation, the fire spread rapidly. The fire was deemed under control by 7:45, but more than half of the building sustained extensive damages and is considered a total loss. As a result, 10 units in the building are uninhabitable. In addition, 15 people, along with 2 dogs and 1 cat, have been displaced from their homes.
There were 3 occupants transported to the hospital with various, unspecified injuries, as well as 1 dog which required immediate care and was taken to the emergency vet.
