KNOX COUNTY - This morning, at 2:21 a.m., a male occupant of 1710 Helmbolt Road called Knox County 911 and reported his home was on fire. The caller advised that the fire was “really big.”
On the arrival of the first Knoxville Fire Department Unit, a working house fire was declared. The officer on the first arriving company advised that this would be a defensive fire, meaning that the fire was too large for crews to enter the structure. The officer also advised that a detached garage was also catching fire. Crews spent the majority of an hour working to gain control of the fire.
At 3:36 AM, the fire was deemed under control and an extensive overhaul of the fire scene would be needed.
Seven adults and one dog occupied the home. All escaped without injury.
The home is a total loss.
The home had working smoke detectors.
The Knoxville Fire Department's Fire Investigations Unit is on the scene, working to determine the cause of this morning's fire.
The American Red Cross is assisting the family. |
