Fire at 6112 Northcrest Circle claims a life
Published March 20, 2023; 5:21 p.m.

KNOXVILLE -- On Thursday, March 16, 2023, at 2:00 PM, the Knoxville Fire Department (KFD) responded to 3112 Northcrest Circle in the Fountain City Community for a reported house fire. KFD fire personnel were met with smoke and fire coming from the living room of the structure. Firefighters were able to knock down the flames within minutes and keep the fire contained. After a brief search of the residence, firefighters discovered that a female was deceased inside the home. Firefighters also located several animals that had succumbed to the fire.

The Knoxville Fire Investigations Unit investigated the cause of the fire and determined the nature of this tragic incident to be accidental, caused by a heater that was being used at the time of the fire.

Smoke alarms were present in the home but were determined not to be functioning at the time of the fire.

After a tragic event like this, we cannot stress enough the importance of working smoke alarms in your homes. KFD firmly believes that you should have smoke alarms in every sleeping room, outside each separate sleeping area, and on every level of the home, including the basement.

Smoke alarms should be tested at least once a month using the test button and replaced once they reach 10 years old, said Public Information Officer Assistant Chief Mark Wilbanks.
