Tennessee Professional Fire Fighters Association endorses Janet Testerman for State House
June 30, 2022

NASHVILLE -- The Tennessee Professional Fire Fighters Association (TPFFA) has endorsed Janet Testerman to represent District 18 in the Tennessee General Assembly.

Testerman, the CEO of Young-Williams Animal Center, currently is serving as an at-large member of the Knoxville City Council and will seek the Republican nomination for the state House seat in the Aug. 4 primary. Early voting will be held July 15-30.

“Janet Testerman met with our association and listened to our members about their issues and concerns,” TPFFA President Matthew Tomek said. “She has political experience already and can build a consensus in her next step in public office. Janet also leads the community’s efforts in animal welfare with compassion and actions that have changed local laws. She is a valued supporter of the TPFFA and our emergency response community, especially in her current role on City Council. We know that Janet will continue her excellent record of service in Nashville and will represent and advocate for our firefighters statewide. I hope you will join me in supporting me in her Primary Election on August 4.”

The District 18 seat became vacant in the state House of Representatives because incumbent Rep. Eddie Mannis announced that he does not plan to seek re-election. Testerman earned an at-large seat on City Council in 2019 and serves as chair of both the Beer Board and the City of Knoxville Animal Control Board.

“I am humbled and honored to receive the endorsement of the Tennessee Professional Fire Fighters Association,” Testerman said. “Emergency responders are on the front lines to ensure the community’s safety and the well-being of its residents. I had the privilege of meeting with local members of the association to discuss what was important to them, and I will work to find solutions that ensure firefighters have the tools and resources to both do their jobs effectively and take care of their physical and mental health.”

Currently a board member for the Metro Drug Coalition, Knoxville Symphony Orchestra and Truist Bank Community Advisory Board, Testerman has served on numerous other boards in the past, including Knoxville Tourism & Sports Corporation (now Visit Knoxville), Bijou Theatre, Leadership Knoxville and Young-Williams Animal Center for five years prior to joining the organization full time. She also was president of the Dogwood Arts board.
