MIDDLESBORO, KY -- Over 3,000 pounds of trash was collected during the Little Yellow Creek Cleanup. In just two and a half hours, 19 volunteers picked up enough debris to fill three dump trucks!

Cumberland Gap National Historical Park joined forces with Tri-State Outdoors Fest, Guardians of the Gap, Responsible Stewardship, Keep Virginia Cozy, Alt Route Meals, Cumberland River Compact, HOKA, Middlesboro Pentecostal Church, and local volunteers to remove shopping carts, tires, plastic bottles, and other debris along a quarter mile stretch of Little Yellow Creek. The creek meanders along the border between Middlesboro and Cumberland Gap National Historical Park.

“In a short amount of time, this small group made a tremendous difference, removing one and a half tons of garbage and improving the area for both Middlesboro residents and park visitors,” said Charles Sellars, Park Superintendent. “We look forward to continuing cleanup efforts in the future with the support of our valued partners and volunteers.”

Cumberland Gap National Historical Park preserves the first great gateway to the west, where Daniel Boone and over 300,000 settlers crossed the Appalachians.
