Tommy Smith to seek re-election for City Council, First District
February 13, 2021
KNOXVILLE - Knoxville City Council Member Tommy Smith plans to seek re-election for Knoxville City Council First District, representing South Knoxville and Fort Sanders.
“I want to ensure South Knoxville and Fort Sanders are vibrant and sustainable,” Smith said. “Sustaining the Urban Wilderness, supporting local businesses on Chapman Highway, Cumberland Avenue, and Sevier Avenue, connecting our community neighborhoods, and investing in people, requires someone who knows every square mile of the First District, listens to people, and provides effective solutions that help people.”
Smith has represented the First District as a member of Knoxville City Council since his appointment in February last year. “To represent everyone in Knoxville, it is important to hear a wide array of perspectives, be able to disagree well but also find ways to win together,” said Smith. “We don't have to choose between one neighborhood or another; each community requires its own investments that fit the people who live there,” Smith added. “People are struggling during the pandemic and the national discord right now is not great. That’s why I’m focused on Knoxville - building bridges between people and delivering effective progress for everyone in our City.”
Smith is a Vice President at Ackermann Marketing & PR, a local communications firm that helps local businesses and nonprofits grow. His business and economic experience include marketing roles at ORNL Federal Credit Union and Dell Inc. Smith holds an MBA in marketing from the University of Tennessee, and an undergraduate degree in business administration from Emory and Henry College in Emory, Va.
“For the last year, it’s been an honor to serve as a Knoxville City Council Member.” Smith added, “I look forward to earning the votes of Knoxville residents to help build a vibrant and sustainable Knoxville.”
Smith, a native of Knoxville, currently lives in Island Home Park with his wife Jamie, and children Carter, Caroline, and Avery. Find out more about his campaign at tommyforknoxville.com.
