Blackburn, Hagerty applaud federal support for Nashville Christmas Day Bombing response
April 21, 2021

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senators Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) and Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.) applauded the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) decision today to award $1.3 million to meet the law enforcement needs of the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) in response to the 2020 Nashville Christmas Day Bombing.

“Nashville was rocked to its core when an explosive device detonated in the heart of downtown on Christmas morning,” said Senator Blackburn. “The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department responded in force to secure the community, and the actions of the brave MNPD officers saved countless innocent lives. However, this placed a considerable financial strain on MNPD. The $1.3 million DOJ grant will allow MNPD to cover additional expenses incurred as a result of this attack.”

“The Christmas Day bombing in Nashville shook the entire state of Tennessee and the Nation,” said Senator Hagerty. “In true volunteer spirit, Tennesseans stepped up and demonstrated the resiliency of the Nashville community, but there is still more to do. I am grateful for this grant from the Department of Justice to meet the needs of our law enforcement personnel at the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.”
