Firehouse Subs awards Pigeon Forge Fire Department over $19,000

PIGEON FORGE, TN - Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has awarded the Pigeon Forge Fire Department nearly $20,000 toward the purchase of 18 automated external defibrillators. Each year, there are over 350,000 cardiac arrests outside of a hospital setting. Less than 10% of the victims survive. Defibrillation with CPR is the only way to restore the victims heart rhythm to normal in many cases. CPR, with early defibrillation, can more than double a patient’s chances of surviving.

The Pigeon Forge Fire Department manages a compressive CPR/AED program. "We manage the program, teaching citizens CPR and AED usage, as well as provide every City-Owned building in Pigeon Forge with an AED. This is thanks to the partnership between the Pigeon Forge Fire Department and Pigeon Forge Police Department," said Pigeon Forge Fire Deputy Chief Charles Powers. "We understand the importance of early CPR and defibrillation."
