The donation is part of SmartBank’s Park Partners Program which supports Great Smoky Mountains National Park and its partners. SmartBank’s Sevier County Market Executive, Bobby Castle and SmartBank’s Regional Branch Administrator & Assistant Vice President, Allyson Griffin, presented the $7,500 check to Tremont Institute on Wednesday, December 20, 2017.

“SmartBank is truly honored to partner with Tremont and other local organizations whose missions align with our own mission of protecting the greatest assets in the communities we serve. And with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in our backyard, our Park Partners Program is most fitting and a great way to fulfill these missions,” said Billy Carroll, SmartBank President and CEO.

Schools from across the country bring students to Tremont Institute to attend programs and stay overnight inside the national park. Lessons are chosen based on age group and teacher goals for the school year and include topics such as scientific method, geology, cultural history, ecology and environmental concerns. Tremont also offers year-round programs for adults and educators to live and learn inside the park.

“We are so thankful for SmartBank and their support,” said Jennifer Jones, PhD, Tremont Institute President and CEO. “Today they helped give more underserved students a transformative education experience at Tremont. The connection to nature grown here is long-lasting and helps create happier people and a healthier planet.”
