February 20, 2011

patrick fugateKNOXVILLE -- Patrick Fugate, 16, son of Scott and Lynne Fugate, recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout at the Boy Scouts Court of Honor. Eagle Scout is the highest rank attainable in the Boy Scouting program. Patrick is currently a junior at West High School and is a member of Troop Six.

To earn the award Patrick completed the required 21 Merit Badges and a service project. His service project was to develop and implement a landscape plan for the YWCA's Phyllis Wheatley Center. To complete this project Patrick initiated a landscape plan to be donated by Hedstrom Design, raised $1,200 to purchase the plants and organized the work days to prepare the grounds.

The YWCA's Phyllis Wheatley Center serves East Knoxville as a community center where churches gather for worship and other organizations and individuals come together for a variety of events. The Phyllis Wheatley Center offers a summer camp, an after-school enrichment program and a senior program.
