KNOXVILLE - As part of an ongoing effort to support healthier, safer communities, Wellpoint Tennessee, in partnership with the City of Knoxville, hosted the Summer C.A.R.E. (Caution, Awareness, Responsibility, Everyone) Fair on Saturday, June 6, at Safety City in Knoxville.

More than 400 families attended the community event, which was designed to promote summer safety, injury prevention, and overall wellness for children and families in the Knoxville area. Safety City’s interactive setting gave children the opportunity to engage in real-world safety scenarios in a controlled environment, with hands-on activities focused on bike and pedestrian safety, fire prevention, and healthy living.

“Every child deserves the opportunity to enjoy a safe, healthy summer,” said Rachel Chinetti, president of Wellpoint Tennessee. “By bringing safety education and trusted community resources together in one place, we are helping Knoxville families build the habits and confidence they need to stay safe and healthy all year long.”

Wellpoint Tennessee distributed 600 children's bike safety helmets at no cost during the event, along with bicycle bells donated through community partnership. Families also enjoyed face painting, a live DJ, a photo booth, and local food trucks.

According to the Tennessee Department of Health's 2024 Child Fatality Report, Tennessee’s fire/burn-related death rate is 50 percent higher than the national average, and 86 percent of fire/burn deaths in the state are deemed probably preventable. Events like the Summer C.A.R.E. Fair directly address these risks by putting safety education and life-saving resources into the hands of Tennessee families.

“We’re proud to partner with Wellpoint Tennessee to bring meaningful resources directly to Knoxville families,” said Joyce Phillips-Minter M.S. CRMJ, training specialist with Safety City. “Events like the Summer C.A.R.E. Fair create opportunities for children to learn important safety skills in an engaging environment while connecting families with the support they need to stay healthy and protected throughout the year.”

Wellpoint Tennessee also hosted the Summer Safety & Health Fair in Chattanooga on June 6, continuing its commitment to bringing health and safety resources to communities across the state.
