KNOXVILLE - Wellpoint Tennessee, in partnership with the Wesley House, hosted “Spring into Nutrition” on March 25, building healthier habits through informed nutrition and meal planning for local families.

The event focused on helping families start fresh this spring by equipping attendees with accessible budgeting strategies and community resources designed to support healthier choices.

Throughout the event, community members engaged with interactive education opportunities covering topics such as unit pricing, identifying high sodium and sugar content, building a balanced pantry, and weekly meal planning. Wellpoint Tennessee also provided nutrition label guides, recipe cards, and wellness bags to help families apply these lessons at home.

“Good nutrition is fundamental to good health,” said Rachel Chinetti, president of Wellpoint Tennessee. “We’re focused on making nutrition education simple and accessible so families across Tennessee can make choices that support long-term well-being."

According to the 2023 IFIC Food & Health Survey, only 45 percent of Americans choose foods labeled as “low sodium,” “reduced sodium,” or “no salt added.” Events like “Spring into Nutrition” help close educational gaps by equipping families with the practical skills needed to read nutrition labels and make healthier decisions when shopping for groceries.

Community partners from across the Knoxville area participated in the event to offer additional health and nutrition resources. A dedicated resource corner at the event also connected families with local support services, including food assistance programs, after-school opportunities, behavioral health resources, and family safety information.

“The Wesley House is proud to partner with Wellpoint and other organizations that share our commitment to supporting communities in impactful ways,” said Porschia Pickett, executive director of the Wesley House. “By providing education and access to wellness resources, we’re empowering families to make healthier choices for themselves and their children, while actively combatting conditions like diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure.”

Reliable access to nutritious, affordable food is essential for maintaining health and preventing chronic disease. By bringing education directly to the communities Wellpoint serves, events like “Spring into Nutrition” help address both immediate needs and long-term wellness.

Wellpoint Tennessee focuses on improving physical health as well as the behavioral and social drivers that impact it through a comprehensive suite of Medicare and Medicaid products.
