KNOXVILLE - October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Knox County Health Department (KCHD)’s Preventive Health Clinic is recognizing this month by raising awareness of the women’s health services available at the clinic.
The clinic provides family planning services, pregnancy testing, annual exams, women’s health education, and breast and cervical cancer screenings for those who meet program guidelines.
KCHD’s Tennessee Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program offers FREE health services including breast and cervical cancer screenings to individuals who meet program guidelines, do not have insurance or whose insurance does not cover this service.
Starting at age 40, women are encouraged to receive annual screening mammograms. If they have a family history of breast cancer, they should start screenings earlier.
“Like any screening, early detection is key,” said Nicole Yates, KCHD’s Preventive Health Clinic Manager. “By having annual screening visits, you can address any issue in a timely manner. We see patients regardless of their ability to pay and have appointments open as early as two days in advance. Please take advantage of this opportunity and get your screenings today.”
KCHD’s Preventive Health Clinic offers women’s health and immunization services. It is located at 140 Dameron Ave. Call 865-215-5000 to make an appointment.
The Knox County Health Department is the first health department in Tennessee to achieve national voluntary accreditation by the Public Health Accreditation Board and is dedicated to ensuring the conditions in which every resident can be healthy.
