Volunteer Tennessee offers some helpful tips on how to be prepared for challenging winter days.

• Listen to local officials. How to prepare for winter storm (Video)
• Be Informed- Sign up for Local Alerts and Warnings and download the FEMA app to get real-time alerts, safety tips, and locate open shelters.
• Have emergency supplies in place at home, at work, and in the car. Build a Kit - Get prepared by assembling supplies for a “go-kit” you can carry if you need to evacuate. And have another vehicle supply kit stored in your car
• Stay off the road during and after a winter storm. What to do if you’re stuck on the road (Video) – National Weather Service
• Use a carbon monoxide alarm, especially if using alternative heating devices. Power Outages and Indoor Air Quality (EPA) Use heating devices safely.
• In case of a power outage, remember to include some extra cash in your kit since ATMs and credit card machines may not work. And have back-up batteries available to charge your phones and other devices.
