First Lady Maria Lee gears up 6th Annual Tennessee Kids Serve Summer Challenge
April 26, 2024, 1:23 p.m.

NASHVILLE – First Lady Maria Lee has announced the sixth annual Tennessee Kids Serve Summer Challenge. The challenge serves as an encouragement for students across Tennessee to get involved in their communities by serving others throughout their summer break.

The challenge is open to rising kindergarteners through rising sixth graders from June 1 to August 1 as part of First Lady Maria Lee’s Tennessee Serves initiative.

“From a young age, I was shown the importance of giving back to my community,” said First Lady Maria Lee. “It is my hope that the Tennessee Kids Serve Summer Challenge teaches our youngest Tennesseans the impact they can make in their community and fosters in them a love for service.”

To complete the challenge, participants must complete a service activity from at least two of the eight service categories provided and a minimum of two service hours to complete the challenge. Top challenge participants will be invited to join the Governor and First Lady for a carnival at the Tennessee Residence in September.

More than 2,200 kids have participated in the summer challenge since 2019, serving 7,784 collective hours in Tennessee communities.

Throughout the last six years, Tennessee kids have participated in a wide variety of service activities ranging from holding lemonade stands benefiting their favorite nonprofit, baking cookies for first responders, and leading bingo at their local senior center.

Parents and guardians can register their child and find additional information about the challenge on the First Lady’s webpage.
