KNOXVILLE - East Tennessee’s Own, WDVX will kick off its 2023 Fall Fund Drive on November 1st at 7:00 with a live broadcast of the recently revived Tennessee Shines Radio Show from the Bijou Theatre. The show will feature performances from The Po’ Ramblin’ Boys, Darrell Scott, Chris Knight, and Tennessee Shines host Jim Lauderdale. In addition to a live audience, the show will be broadcast in its entirety on WDVX and video streamed on WDVX’s YouTube Channel and Facebook Live.
The Tennessee Shines performance will also serve as WDVX’s 26th birthday celebration, as well as the opening act for the station’s on-air Fall Fund Drive, which will run from November 1st through November 8th. Listeners and supporters will be encouraged to pledge their financial support to help WDVX keep the music going by calling the station during the fund drive at
(865) 544-1029, or by visiting the station’s website at wdvx.com/support. Supporters will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of thank you gifts including WDVX apparel and merchandise, or a variety of live music experiences when they make a donation during the drive.
As WDVX enters its 27th year of broadcasting, it is also extending its commitment to bringing live music to the multiple communities it serves by adding even more live concert series to its programming. In addition to Tennessee Shines in November, WDVX will relaunch the Smoky Mountain Jamboree at the Clayton Center for the Arts in Maryville on December 1st with Wyatt Ellis, Cruz Contreras, and host Jay Clark. The Secret City Radio Show featuring Tim O’Brein with Jan Fabricius, Four Leaf Peat, and host Chad Beauchaine will return to the Grove Theatre in Oak Ridge with a live broadcast on December 8th. All three of these shows will continue in 2024 with quarterly broadcasts. WDVX will produce one of these live ensemble shows every month moving forward in the new year.
WDVX also continues to produce its flagship live radio show, The WDVX Blue Plate Special six days a week at noon in downtown Knoxville with a variety of local, regional, and national artists performing on our stage at Visit Knoxville. The weekly Big Plate performances live from Barley’s every Friday, and monthly productions of Taps & Tunes on the Corner (First Friday) and Kidstuff Live also combine to give WDVX one of the strongest stables of live music broadcasts of any radio station in the country.
All of these live shows, in addition to all other WDVX programming, can be heard locally on the radio at 89.9 and 102.9, or streamed live through the WDVX website. Video of all live performances are also streamed on the station’s YouTube Channel and on Facebook Live.
For 26 years, WDVX has been serving its mission to create and provide content to promote the cultural heritage of East Tennessee and the Southern Appalachian region by entertaining and educating audiences globally with original programs showcasing live radio performance, underrepresented arts, and emerging and local talent. All of this is made possible largely through the financial support of a dedicated audience who believe in that mission and enjoy the quality radio programming and live music performances the station produces.
WDVX is also looking for volunteers who would like to help out during the fund drive by answering calls from supporters or helping with events. Volunteers can call the station at (865) 544-1029 or send emails to volunteers@wdvx.com.
