Communications expert encourages unfiltered conversations about social media usage
October 30, 2023

Today’s teens have never known life without social media, and to help parents — particularly those with daughters — open meaningful dialogues about social media usage, communications expert Latasha Blackmond shares important tips and tools in her book, Be You, No Filter: How to Love Yourself and Stay #SocialMediaStrong. Chapters include Throw Comparison in the Trash, Know You Are More Than a Body and Setting Boundaries.

Watching and listening to her own daughter’s reactions to social media posts prompted communications expert Latasha Blackmond to explore ways to help her daughter navigate the intense emotions that can rise to the surface when scrolling. She shares important tips, tools and conversation starters in her book, Be You, No Filter: How to Love Yourself and Stay #SocialMediaStrong.

While written with teenagers in mind, Blackmond wants parents to know that her book is as much for them as it is their daughters. “It’s not only for young girls … it’s an opportunity for mothers also to open a dialogue with their daughters,” Blackmond said in a recent interview.

Be You, No Filter is a step-by-step guide for young women looking to interact on social media in the healthiest way possible. Blackmond’s tell-it-like-it-is approach gives readers the encouragement and the tools they need to live lives of ownership, maintain their true identities and overcome doubts.

This book tackles topics such as comparison, external validation, boundaries, body image, sexuality and so much more. Chapters share stories, guidance and interactive journal exercises to inspire readers to be the best version of themselves, share their authentic self unashamedly, identify their goals and create an honest life they love.

“By the end of Be You, No Filter, you will gain a better understanding of how easy it is to participate in sabotaging behaviors — and how to break free from them, discover the real you and love yourself just the way you are,” Blackmond added.
