Covenant Kids Run kicks off Feb. 4 at Zoo Knoxville

KNOXVILLE -- On Saturday, Feb. 4, at noon, the Covenant Kids Run starts with a 1-mile fun run at Zoo Knoxville. On-site registration starts at 10 a.m.

The Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon event challenges children to complete the exercise equivalent a 26.2-mile marathon in about two months. Throughout the event, children will track their progress with a provided mileage log to record walking, running and active play.

All children are invited to finish strong together in World’s Fair Park during race weekend on April 1.

Children can register online in advance or sign up outside the zoo, starting at 10 a.m. Registration is $20 and includes free zoo admission for a child and adult on the kickoff date. The event marks the first mile of marathon challenge, which will finish in World’s Fair Park on April 1.

Visuals: Hundreds of East Tennessee kids embarking on a fitness challenge at Zoo Knoxville. Volunteers, parents and school and community members will be there to cheer the children on as they complete the first mile of the Covenant Kids Run.

Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon Race Director Jason Altman will be available for interviews from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., except during the noon start time.

Schedule of events; media are invited to attend all parts:

• 10-11:50 a.m. – On-site event registration available; Jason Altman available for interviews.
• Noon – Race begins; kids run in staggered age groups across 1-mile course.
• Approximately 12:20 p.m. – Race concludes; Altman available for interviews; participating families can stay and enjoy exhibits at Zoo Knoxville.

Zoo Knoxville is located at 3500 Knoxville Zoo Drive, just off Interstate 40 in East Knoxville.
