The Swag, a luxury all-inclusive resort in the Smoky Mountains near Waynesville, North Carolina, again has been named to Travel & Leisure’s Top 15 Resort Hotels in the South. This is the boutique property’s fifth year as part of the magazine’s World’s Best Awards, landing at No. 3 on the list for 2022.

“Our industry has faced many changes and challenges over the past few years, which makes inclusion on this particular list all the more humbling,” said Annie Colquitt, owner and innkeeper at The Swag with her husband, David Colquitt. “Our entire team is honored by our guests’ continued loyalty and trust, and hope that they feel our appreciation in every interaction and experience at The Swag.”

Every year, Travel & Leisure holds an online reader survey for the World’s Best Awards to determine the top travel experiences around the world. The survey collects travelers’ opinions on facilities, location, service, food and overall value. On the 2022 list of the best resort hotels in the South, The Swag is accompanied by such nationally regarded locations as Blackberry Mountain in Tennessee and Old Edwards Inn & Spa in North Carolina.

The Swag is situated on 250 acres of mile-high views and currently is open for its 41st season. The Colquitts, who bought The Swag in 2018, spend the off-seasons adding new features to the resort. The most recent additions include a full-service onsite spa and outdoor hot tub, a gym, a dining terrace with sweeping views and an expanded cellar for the curated and unique wines guests enjoy at the property’s fine dining restaurant.

The Swag is fully booked for the 2022 season and currently is accepting reservations for 2023.

Guests not staying at the resort can make reservations at The Swag’s restaurant or buy a gourmet picnic lunch to take on one of the many hiking trails on the property or in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which borders The Swag.
