September 14, 2021

GATLINBURG, TN – Expert biologist Joseph Yarkovich presents “Elk of the Smokies” at Science at Sugarlands, Discover Life in America’s (DLiA) virtual Smokies-themed speaker series.

From Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Yarkovich has focused his attention on the Park’s reintroduced Elk species for many years. His work on this species in the Smokies has significantly contributed to its success.

This Friday, September 17, listen to Joe share his knowledge about this fascinating, much-loved, megafauna Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

“So many visitors come to see the Park’s Elk herd since their reintroduction years ago” shares DLiA’s executive director Todd Witcher. “It is great to have Joe share his knowledge and insight into this fascinating species and their story in the Park.”

Science at Sugarlands talks will be held on Zoom, increasing its accessibility to interested participants worldwide. DLiA will be hosting presentations on the third Friday of each month from August to October from 1-3 p.m. EST.

The last Science at Sugarlands for 2021 is:
• October 15 – The Smokies Herbarium, presented by Janie Bitner, volunteer in the GSMNP Natural History Collection

All talks are free and everyone is invited to attend. To register to receive a Zoom link and find more information visit the website.
