ober gatlinburg hiking trailsThe Trails at Ober are the latest adventure offered at Ober Gatlinburg, Inc. The 1.5-mile trek winds up through the woods surrounding the ski slopes bordering the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. An experienced guide will identify the many seasonal wildflowers and medicinal plants that line the trail, while also discussing the 60-year history of Tennessee’s only Ski Area. Included is a behind the scenes look at Ober Gatlinburg’s snow making operations and related equipment. Many interesting features can be found along The Trails at Ober, including photo ops, ponds, steps, a bridge, and a wishing well.

“Our customers often ask if we have hiking here and we thought it would be a great way to utilize the (ski) slopes year-round,” said Mark Perry, Trails Manager. “I really enjoy taking people out on the trails and teaching them about the native plants and the unique history of this beautiful area.”

Due to the unique location and interesting talking points, The Trails at Ober is fun for hikers of all experience levels. The hike itself ranges from easy, rolling hills to short bursts of moderate, uphill climbs. Several opportunities to rest and hydrate throughout the journey are included. Suitable for ages 6 years and up, it can also serve as a family friendly adventure. Reservations are encouraged, as tours are limited to 15 people.
