Knoxville labor unions to hold Labor Day picnic & celebration
August 31, 2021

On Monday, September 6th, the Knoxville-Oak Ridge Central Labor Council will host a Labor Day picnic and celebration. This event will be open to the public and will serve as an opportunity to celebrate the everyday workers who teach our kids, build our buildings, deliver our mail, create the products we enjoy and keep our city running. Labor Day celebrations have been a time-honored tradition in cities across the country since the first one held in 1882. These events help us to remember the historic struggles that have been faced by working families, the many advances we’ve made, and the work yet to be done to ensure that all people have access to a safe workplace, decent wages and dignified treatment.

This family-friendly event will include:
• presentation of Labor Day awards
• keynote speech from Vonda McDaniel (President of Nashville/Mid TN Central Labor Council)
• remarks from union leaders and elected leaders
• live music from Jay Clark
• free BBQ
• raffle prizes
• mini trade fair and tabling from community partners
• kids activities, and more!

The event will be held at Tyson Park (2351 Kingston Pike) from 10:30 am - 2:00 pm. You can let them know you are attending by visiting their Facebook page.

*Following CDC guidelines, this event will be entirely outdoors and masks are strongly encouraged. Masks and hand sanitizer will be provided.
