MEMPHIS, TN - This summer, trade the beach for Missouri’s Ozark Mountains for a true nature retreat. Big Cedar Lodge, the iconic 4,600-acre wilderness resort, is offering a jam-packed weekend of festive, outdoor activities as families reunite and kick off the start of summer.

From a family fishing tournament to a patriotic picnic and sunset fly-over ceremony, see below for more details on the Big Cedar Lodge’s Memorial Day festivities:

Patriotic Picnic – Soak in the summer sun with games, attractions, contests, crafts, entertainment, a flyover and more. Big Cedar Lodge is offering a menu of mouthwatering foods on the Swimming Hole Lawn, along with a special performance by the Clay Self Band and an evening firework show.

Family Bowling Tournament – In the first annual Fun Mountain Memorial Bowling Tournament, families will have 10 frames of bowling in which each frame will be a new challenge such as granny-style bowling, opposite hand bowling, and backwards bowling.

Memorial Fly-Over Sunset Ceremony – Top of The Rock will present a special wreath-laying ceremony and cannon ceremony as well as a special presentation of colors, a military flyover, and a memorial message.

Paddleboat Family Fishing Tournament – Enjoy a fun morning of fishing at Table Rock Lake. Fishers will have one hour to try and catch the heaviest fish, and winners will receive a Bass Pro Prize and a Grand Prize.

Big Cypress Lodge
Located in the soaring 32-story Memphis Pyramid along the Mississippi River, Big Cypress Lodge offers an unexpected way for families to embrace the spirit of the great outdoors and enjoy a “city glamping” experience. It is the sister hotel of Big Cedar Lodge. The hotel brings the outdoors inside with 103 rustic-elegant guest rooms and suites that resemble vintage cabins with screened-in “porches” and electric fireplaces, an elegant lobby, a 535,000 square-foot Cypress Swamp featuring aquariums teeming with fish and alligators, and two sky-high culinary outlets offering outdoor seating and panoramic views of the Memphis skyline.

Here are 4 new reasons to book an unforgettable family getaway to Big Cypress Lodge this summer:

Mississippi Terrace

• NOW OPEN: Mississippi Terrace – Big Cypress Lodge’s beloved al fresco dining experience is officially open for the season! Guests can enjoy small plate appetizers and hand-crafted cocktails while admiring the spectacular view of the Memphis skyline at The Mississippi Terrace. Located at the top of The Pyramid, it features two fire pits, over-sized furniture, a full bar, high top tables and a stage for live music. Mississippi Terrace is open on Wednesday & Thursday from 5pm-10pm and Friday & Saturday from 5pm-11pm.
• NEW Safari in the City Package – Big Cypress Lodge has partnered with one of the country’s top-rated zoos to offer guests a wildlife-filled adventure both on and off property. The Memphis Zoo is just a 15-minute drive from the hotel and is home to 4,500 animals including Giant Pandas and the seasonal Stingray Cove exhibit. Rates for the Safari in the City package start at $292 and include accommodations of choice and tickets to the Memphis Zoo.
• NEW Cozy Gifts & Sweet Treats – Travelers can now bring home a piece of Memphis and Big Cypress with two new add-ons. The new Big Cypress Chocolate Caramels ($18) from Memphis chocolatiers, Dinstuhl’s Fine Candy Company, are sure to satisfy any sweet tooth with both dark and milk chocolate varieties. For a gift that won’t accidentally get eaten on the car ride home (we won’t tell!), the new Big Cypress Sherpa Blanket ($75) helps travelers bring the coziness of the lodge back home. Embroidered with the Big Cypress logo, the blanket also folds and tucks into a Sherpa pillow.
• COMING SOON: Wahlburgers Wild - The first-ever Wahlburgers Wild restaurant is slated to open this summer on the ground floor of the Pyramid. This new concept will be the first of its kind from the popular Wahlburgers chain of restaurants. Wahlburgers Wild will mark several firsts for the restaurant chain including being the brand’s first location in Tennessee, first location inside any Bass Pro Shops, and the first to offer signature wild game menu items from Chef Paul Wahlberg.
