By Jeaneane Payne

Locals have learned that there are better options to sustained quality health versus only seeing a chiropractor or physiotherapist, or only going to a gym, or seeing a personal trainer. This new hybrid model of therapy is working wonders on individuals' health, young to old, hobbyist to pro athlete. Temple Human Performance is the only health clinic in Knoxville and only 1 of 10 clinics in America currently utilizing this type of therapy. People like to learn about new ways to help themselves, and that's what the clinic offers.

Utilizing a "Treatment & Training" approach to therapy, Kelly corrects patient's musculoskeletal imbalances on his therapy table. He then strengthens those weak strain patterns through corrective exercises in his training room. The results neurologically strengthen the brain so that you no longer feel chronic pain.

When Kelly was 10 years old he had a serious bike injury. He crashed, received a concussion, and went from right handed to left handed after coming out of a short coma. From that point forward he has been fascinated by the human body and why the brain's neurology has such an important role in living a high functioning, quality life. Kelly graduated from UT with this same goal in mind, which was to treat peoples issues in their brain and body at the same time, to find sustained results. Temple Human Performance was born in 1996 and has served Knoxvillians, as well as top athletes and celebrities from across the United States.

Kelly works with/on celebrities from all across the globe here locally. He most recently worked with Bert Reynolds prior to his death on his severe functional scoliosis. Local UT stars like Jabari Davis, The Big Show (WWF Wrestler), as well as Beaver Fleming (Olympic skateboarder), and NFL Punters (Brian and Dustin Colquitt).

Kelly has recently created a new product called the PhysioKinetix Training System which neurologically corrects Movement Dysfunction and Pain through progressional exercises done on his clinic's on-demand platform. People all over the country are utilizing this product to get out of pain for life. This new product educates locals about new ways to correct pain in people versus therapies that only affect the symptoms people experience for pain and not the causes. Paul also is a nationally recognized public speaker, who travels the US each year teaching manual therapists how to become better through teaching his specific modality of therapy.

The clinic's professional staff includes Hope Troy, Massage Therapist, Nutritionist; Ashley Canant, Massage Therapist/ Sports Massage Therapist, Personal Trainer; Austin Lilis, Certified Personal Trainer, Kinisiologist; Paul Kelly, owner, Master Myoskeletal Alignment Therapist, Manual Therapist, PhysioKinetix Therapist.

Paul Kelly runs his pain management clinic at 2099 Thunderhead Rd (Suite 205), Knoxville 37922. Located privately above Cazzy's Restaurant.

Powerful Success Stories:

1. Dustin Colquitt (NFL Punter) - Colquitt thought he had injured his hamstring during his last year in college (2005). It was severely affecting his ability to punt the football well going into his first and only NFL draft. Colquitt went to Temple Human Performance to try to figure out what was going on so it would not negatively affect his draft status. Kelly was able to figure out that Dustin had a misaligned pelvis which was causing tightness of his hamstring and groin. After one week of treatment with Kelly, Colquitt went on to kick his best training camp at the NFL combine and was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs. To this day, the Colquitts still come into Temple Human Performance each summer to receive manual therapy to keep their bodies in sync.

2. The Big Show (WWF Wrestler) - The Big Show came into the facility to have Kelly work on his hip alignment, as it was causing him issues with walking and gait. Kelly was surprisingly able to get him on his Therapy table. After some effort he was able to realign The Big Show's hips/pelvis/thoracolumbar so that he could walk again pain free.

3. Burt Reynolds (Movie Star) - Burt began coming in to see Kelly towards the end of his life to find relief for his incredibly severe functional scoliosis. Reynolds developed the scoliosis during a catastrophic injury which occurred during the shooting of the movie Gunsmoke. Reynolds was taking a kayak over a waterfall in the movie. When he went over the waterfall he hit his lower back and pelvis on a jagged rock. From that point forward Reynolds developed severe functional scoliosis that made him require a cane to walk the rest of his life. Kelly was able to help Reynolds deal with his scoliosis pain here in Knoxville. Reynolds was then able to work on the set of his last movie ever "The Last Movie Star" (2017).

4. Local Knoxvillian (Cid Alexander "Testimonial") - "When I first started going to Temple Human Performance about 2 years ago", said Alexander. "I was a mess. I was attempting to recover from surgery-caused neuropathy due to tourniquet use during my Achilles tendon repair in 2016. The repair left me with nerve damage from my lower thigh to my toes. In 2017, I had a left hip replacement. Despite 1 1/2 years of physical therapy, I had not been able to recover much or even begin to rehab my Achilles and calf. My daughter was very concerned about my overall physical status and because she was working at Temple, she encouraged me to visit."

Additionally, I’d also had a cervical fusion in 2004, and due to my significant use of crutches and frequent forward bending and poor posture, I developed 3 herniated cervical discs and a brachial plexus neuropathy. I’d had low back problems for years and all of these aforementioned difficulties led to significant time sitting or reclining, when I’d always been highly active. This was all very depressing and scary to me."

In my first few months at Temple I could not stand on my left foot for more than a few seconds, I had significant pain in my back that radiated to my buttocks and down both legs, and it took me over an hour of morning movement alongside Tylenol and Ibuprofen to be able to start my day. I could barely get out of my car, and I avoided attending UT football and basketball games because I had great difficulty getting up and down the stairs and feared falling. In addition, my work efficiency suffered greatly as all these problems began to culminate."

I have been seeing Paul Kelly on nearly a weekly basis, as well as 2-3 additional sessions per week with his certified personal trainers. About a year ago the pains in my back, buttocks and legs ceased. My balance has improved tremendously and I can easily get out of my car now. I can go up and down football and basketball arena stairs confidently. I play golf, walk, sneak in some basketball, and body surf. I’ve lost 18 pounds, gained significant muscle and core strength, can kick my 17-year-old son’s butt again now (jk!), and my daughter is no longer worried about me being able to walk her down the aisle in several years. My son started attending Temple after a severe ankle sprain and works out there regularly with the trainers and has made tremendous gains as well."

The wealth of knowledge that Paul Kelly has in his toolbelt, and his approach of treating the whole body both brain and body at the same time, has educated and assisted me to an astonishing degree. I’ve been treated by orthopedists, physical therapists, massage therapists, had nerve stimulation treatments, stem cell injections and nothing has come close to benefiting me like Paul and his staff have. I learn new facts about anatomy, physiology, nutrition and inflammation every time I’m there and no other professional or group of professionals I’ve been treated by over the years can hold a candle to the success this man was able to provide to me through his treatment and training approach to therapy. Thank you Paul for giving me my life back."
