Families will learn how to attract birds to their home garden and create natural spring-inspired crafts. Enjoy educational activities led by the UT Gardens education staff, the Knoxville Chapter of the Tennessee Ornithological Society and the UT Poultry Club. All kids will leave with a beneficial insect hotel craft, a flower to transplant, a pine cone bird nesting bundle, and a bird mobile. This year we are excited to offer eggs stuffed with wild flower seed paper confetti as an environmentally friendly alternative to plastic toys or trinkets. Children will also get a chance to win a prize or two. The Easter Bunny will be hopping around for a selfie with your family.
In partnership with the Food Allergy Community of East Tennessee (FACET), Allergy and Asthma Affiliates, and Allergy Asthma and Sinus Center, the annual Wild Bird Eggstravaganza is food-free. This is a family friendly event and is intended for children ages 12 and under. Bring your Easter basket and a camera! Wild Bird Eggstravaganza is sponsored by Allergy & Asthma Affiliates and the Allergy, Asthma, & Sinus Center.
The cost for Eggstravaganza is $8 per child ages 12 and under. Due to limited capacity and to ensure that everyone has an opportunity for an enjoyable visit, advanced registration is required. Please reserve your child’s space by visiting visit tiny.utk.edu/eggstravaganza by 5 p.m., Thursday, April 11, 2019.
More than 1,000 woody plants are under long-term observation at the UT Gardens, and around 2,000 varieties of herbaceous plants are evaluated annually. The Gardens function as an outdoor laboratory, teaching and research facility, and public gardens, sharing their beauty with more than 50,000 visitors yearly. Established in 1983 by the UT Institute of Agriculture Department of Plant Sciences, the Gardens are recognized as one of only 34 official All American Selections (AAS) test sites in the United States.
