Volunteer Tennessee hosts AmeriCorps grant funding information sessions

Volunteer Tennessee, the Governor-appointed commission that encourages volunteerism and community service, will be hosting a series of AmeriCorps grant information sessions across the state from Sept. 25 – Oct. 16.

The purpose of the sessions is to educate potential non-profit, government, or faith-based applicants about the requirements and funding process for obtaining AmeriCorps grants throughout the state.

AmeriCorps is the national service program of the Corporation for National and Community Service that engages more than 75,000 Americans each year to meet locally identified community needs in the areas of disaster services; economic opportunity; education; environmental stewardship; healthy futures; and veterans and military families. Volunteer Tennessee currently funds 19 programs across the state.

Organizations interested in applying for AmeriCorps funding or learning about hosting AmeriCorps members, are encouraged to attend one of the following sessions (all times local, sessions last approximately 2 hours):

• Johnson City: September 25, 9:00 a.m. at the United Way of Washington County, TN (1907 N Roan St., Suite 409)

• Knoxville: September 25, 2:00 p.m. at the United Way of Greater Knoxville (1301 Hannah Avenue)

• Athens: September 26, 9:00 a.m. at the Colloms Campus Center at Tennessee Wesleyan University (204 E College Street)

• Murfreesboro: September 26, 2:00 p.m. at The Warehouse (730 Middle Tennessee Blvd)

• Nashville: October 1, 9:00 a.m. at the Martha O'Bryan Center (711 S 7th St)

• Memphis: October 16, 9:00 a.m. at Memphis Teacher Residency (Crosstown Concourse, 1350 Concourse Ave suite 366)

• Jackson: October 16, 2:00 p.m. at the United Way of West Tennessee (470 N Parkway, Suite B)

Volunteer Tennessee is the Governor’s commission on volunteerism and service. Its mission is to encourage volunteerism and community service. Annually, Volunteer Tennessee provides more than $4.5 million in AmeriCorps, Volunteer Generation Fund, and volunteer center grants to local agencies throughout the state so they can engage volunteers to meet community needs in disaster services, economic opportunity, education, environmental stewardship, healthy futures, and veterans and military families. The commission consists of a 25-member, bi-partisan volunteer citizen board appointed by the Governor and eleven State Government ex-officio positions. For more information, visit
