Beautiful plants, expert advice available at UT Gardens fall plant sale

KNOXVILLE ­– Fall brings cooler temperatures that are easier on plants and on gardeners alike. The chance of rain increases, the intensity of the sun decreases and the soil is still warm, promoting root growth. These combine to form the perfect atmosphere for the fall plant sale at the UT Gardens, Knoxville.

The fall plant sale will include a wide assortment of plants, with the UT Gardens featuring a few select varieties, which are listed below.

• Double Play™ Candy Corn™ Spirea with kaleidoscope leaves and flowers
• ‘Judy Zuk’ Magnolia with fragrant yellow blooms
• Three gorgeous selections of Barberry from the Sunjoy® series
• Mt. Airy Fothergilla with gorgeous fall color
• ‘Baby Blue Ice’ Chamaecyparis
• Many other beautiful plants

UT Gardens staff and Master Gardeners will also be on hand to help customers with plant suggestions, expert gardening tips and landscape advice.

The preview sale, available to Gardens members only, will be held on Friday, September 28, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. UT Gardens memberships may be purchased or renewed either Friday or Saturday, and Gardens members receive 10 percent off their plant sale purchases. The public sale will be held on Saturday, September 29, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

All proceeds from the fall plant sale will benefit the UT Gardens, Knoxville.

The UT Gardens include plant collections located in Knoxville, Jackson and Crossville. Designated as the official botanical garden for the State of Tennessee, the collections are part of the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture. The UT Gardens mission is to foster appreciation, education and stewardship of plants through garden displays, educational programs and research trials.
