U.S. Bank’s ‘Community Possible Relay” coming to Knoxville
A three month, 25 state, 38 city and 12,000 mile journey to reignite community volunteerism
KNOXVILLE – U.S. Bank hopes to inspire 153,000+ volunteers across the country to take part in rebuilding and revitalizing their communities. Coined the Race to 153K, which represents 1,000 volunteers for every year U.S. Bank has been in business, the three-month, 12,000-mile relay will stop in 38 communities across 25 states. At every stop, the company will host a volunteer activity centered around work, home and play – the basis of the bank’s new corporate giving and volunteer program called Community Possible.
In Knoxville, U.S. Bank invites volunteers to participate in an event on Wednesday, July 6 in partnership with tnAchieves and Tennessee Promise, local nonprofits with the mission to provide all Tennesseans with accessible and affordable post-secondary degree or credential opportunities, regardless of their socio-economic status, zip code or background. From 12 to 3 p.m. ET, participating volunteers will kick-off of the #knoxServes Volunteer Weekend by meeting at the Downtown Knoxville Market Square to help promote education and volunteerism in the Knoxville community. Local public officials will be in attendance and volunteers will hand out literature on financial literacy, information on #knoxServes as well as bottles of water with the Community Possible logo to event goers.
“We’re challenging the locals and businesses in Knoxville to join us in this massive collective effort to revitalize the spirit of community in our Race to 153k – representing 1,000 volunteers for every year U.S. Bank has been in business,” said Richard Davis, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of U.S. Bank. “We invite everyone to help build and support vibrant communities by volunteering and giving back. This relay symbolizes our dedication to bringing back community volunteerism in America. By working together, we can and will make a difference.”
The relay is an unprecedented community revitalization program. It represents U.S. Bank’s dedication, in part, to addressing the reported 25 to 50 percent decline in volunteerism that has taken place over the last four decades. The bank hopes to inspire a wave of volunteerism and community engagement with a “mobile baton” that will drive across the country making stops throughout the summer, issuing a call-to-action for people to join U.S. Bank volunteers and help give back to their communities.
All volunteers, businesses and media are welcome to attend the event and encouraged to share their experiences on social media with #CommunityPossible. Any additional information about the event in Knoxville or the Community Possible Relay can be found on U.S. Bank’s Facebook, Twitter or Instagram pages.
